E.M.A.
Sheldon EMA is a group of 12 individuals, including
two high school students, with varied safety responsibilities in and around Sheldon. Sheldon EMA's main responsibility is STORM WATCH but also assists Sheldon Police, Iowa State Patrol, O'Brien County Sheriff's Department, Sheldon Community Ambulance Team and the Sheldon Fire Department as needed.
In 2001 Sheldon EMA was recognized by the National
Weather Service in Sioux Falls, South Dakota as the FIRST Certified StormReady Community within a 45 county area.
According to the National Weather Service,
StormReady Communities are better prepared to protect citizens from severe weather through better planning, education and awareness. No community is storm proof but StormReady can help communities save lives.
In 2001 Sheldon EMA was instrumental in purchasing four new "OUTDOOR WARNING SIRENS" for better warning dissemination in and around Sheldon.

SCAT is a city owned volunteer organization.
Meetings are held every other Wednesday evening. at 6:30 p.m.

Presently have 2 ambulances in operation, which are
both equipped with defibrillators.

Fire Department
Mission Statement: Dedicated to saving lives and
property. To provide the community the best service possible in emergency situations with the training and knowledge we have learned, and also pass on the training and knowledge to aid in calls to come.

Meetings: 24 per year (Meet the 1st & 3rd Thursday night of the month)
Certifications Held by Most Members: Firefighter I, Firefighter II, ERT, Hazmat Awareness, Hazrnat Operations, First Responder, CPR, and Confined Spaces. There are many more also.
Territory: 81 square miles with mutual aid to surrounding towns within 30 miles.
